Welcome to the Sustainable Energy House Project!

The story

Years ago my family and I began to consider the idea of buying a house and focusing on renovating it to make it energy independent and sustainable from both an environmental and economic point of view.

After years of saving and research, technical advice and cost assessment, we realized that the sector is full of so-called "green" propaganda and proposals for solutions whose cost is disproportionate to the benefits obtained.

In short, converting an old property into something energetically modern is much more expensive than what is being peddled by governments and advertising. It requires profound changes, sometimes even the experimentation of little-known solutions. Therefore, the research and study of new, more realistic solutions are needed, until we reach the optimal solution for each problem faced.

Now we are forced to move, and we think it is the right moment to realize our idea that we firmly believe in.

But we need funds. Research and experimentation are expensive, so we warmly thank everyone who believes in our work for every contribution, large and small, and regardless of the amount raised we will publish over time everything we manage to achieve and the conclusions about it.

Solutions that will be shared online for the benefit of all, complete with projects, sheets and accounts.

The Project

The project is about the construction of an energy-independent home, dependent only on renewable sources, starting from a property built in the 70s.

Why an old house? Because, in fact, more than 80% of properties in Europe, US and UK are built before the 90s and in any case, it would make no sense for the purposes of the idea of "conversion" to build a new property).

The goal is to be achieved by applying the best solutions available on the market (photovoltaic, wind, solar thermal, etc.) but always with an eye on the wallet, evaluating the technologies with the best price/performance ratio and completely freeing ourselves from sources such as gas, petroleum, etc.

Status and Fundrising

After months of research we have identified the right property, the cost of which would be covered for a little more than 60% by our savings, and the remaining 40% by a bank loan.

In the meantime, we have started the fundraising, with which we hope to cover at least part of the cost of the "conversion" of the property.

The house will become our home and will be truly lived in. The goal is to study - and possibly demonstrate - the actual feasibility of such an energy transition, evaluate the actual costs of conversion and maintenance in the years to come to understand in the field the actual relationship between benefits and costs, beyond the advertising and "green" propaganda.
